Disassembling the Toyota LandCruiser FJ40 - BJ40 - BJ42

Where to begin ? The intention was to clean up and refurbish some of the dirty parts. Perhaps a bit of welding will be required. I estimated it would take some 2 years in total to do the work in my spare time.It took overall almost 9 years.

But so often it does not go as you intended: rebuilding the roof of the house, two lovely kids etc.

The plans were to get it on the road in July 2014. Why ? Tax rules where changed all of a sudden in the Netherlands. Classic cars must be 40 years to be road tax free. Driving a Diesel 3B engine in my FJ40 and about 1800 Kg's is to expensive to put it earlier on the road. On the 4th of Mai 2015 the 3B diesel fired right up at it's first start in 9 years.

The whole idea of the restoration was to have a better than factory original LandCruiser. So an upgraded or updated version with not necessarily the right accessories or parts of the correct years. As long as it is original LandCruiser. So from the outside as in the brochures. My wish list included wheels with hubcaps and a front seat with bench so you can seat 3 in the front.

Some parts like those in the picture I had yellow zinc plated before powder coating or spray painting.
